Quality Policy
K. J. Thulborn Contractors & Engineers Limited (the organisation)aims
to provide defect-free goods and services to its customers
on time and within budget.
The organisation operates a Quality Management System that
has gained BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000 certification, including
aspects specific to the contracting industry.
The management is committed to:
- Develop and improve the Quality Management System.
- Continually improve the effectiveness of the Quality Management
System.
- The enhancement of customer satisfaction.
The management has a continuing commitment to:
- Ensure that customer needs and expectations are determined
and fulfilled with the aim of achieving customer satisfaction.
- Communicate throughout the organisation the importance
of meeting customer needs and legal requirements.
- Establish the Quality Policy and its objectives.
- Conduct management reviews of the effectiveness of the
implementation of the Quality Management System.
- Ensure the availability of resources.
The structure of the Quality management System is defined
in the Quality Manual.
All personnel understand the requirements of this Quality
Policy and abide with the contents of the Quality manual.
In addition to all English and EU commercial legislation
and regulations, the organisation complies with all legislation
and regulations specifically related to its business activities.
The organisation constantly monitors its quality performance
and implements improvements when appropriate
The Quality Policy is regularly reviewed in order to ensure
its continuing suitability.

Health & Safety Management Process
The health and safety of employees is of paramount importance
to K. J. Thulborn Contractors & Engineers Limited. In
order to maintain our focus, we employ a very proactive approach
to health and safety and integrate this system into the everyday
management of the company.
This commitment is emphasised further by our annual membership
with SSG Training and Consultancy whereby we work in partnership
to manage and implement our health and safety strategy. We
have unlimited access to a team of consultants that; are either
experienced with or involved in MOD-based contracts; for advice
and support as required.
The following text provides a summary of our health and safety
business process:
- All employees receive induction training in the first
instance, and where appropriate undertake specific training
to be competent while operating equipment required for their
work.
- Key personnel have been assigned specific health and safety
duties as detailed in our Company Health and Safety Policy.
- Promote culture that all personnel are responsible for
health and safety and will work willingly toward achievement
of the company health and safety objectives.
- Comprehensive risk assessments and method statements are
published and reviewed frequently to determine any additional
risk control measures.
- Promotion of open communication policy means employees
consult directly with supervisors, managers or the Managing
Director on issues that may affect their health and safety.
- All equipment operatives are CSCS registered.
- All equipment is suitable for its intended use and is
subject to frequent inspection, testing, maintenance and
statutory examinations. (Appropriate certificates held).
- SSG conduct external health and safety audits at K. J.
Thulborn operated sites on a monthly basis.
- SSG deliver tool box talks and education of
topical health and safety issues and legislation to K. J.
Thulborn employees on a quarterly basis.
- An internal reporting system is in place that effectively
captures all relevant incidents and enables regular review
of accident book entries, near miss reports, maintenance
and defect logs and reports made under RIDDOR.
- Overriding policy that all accidents are investigated,
the degree of investigation proportionate to the severity
of the incident.
- Accident Investigations may be conducted internally or
undertaken by SSG.

Human Resources Management
K. J. Thulborn Contractors & Engineers Limited are committed

- Full records of training are maintained.
Investors in People
We are currently engaged in a programme to achieve Investors
in People accreditation, and are on target to achieve this
by the end of 2003.
Personnel Vetting
Due to the sensitive nature of some of our work, our policy
is to ensure that all members of staff are vetted in accordance
with all government Acts designed to protect vulnerable
persons (adults and children) in the community.

Environmental Management
Environmental Policy Statement
In the performance of its contract activities K. J. Thulborn
Contractors & Engineers Limited (the organisation)
addresses environmental issues as an integral part of its
management process and staff at all levels are required to
act with care and consideration embracing the responsibility
for stewardship of the environment.
The organisation is committed to the prevention of pollution
and compliance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001 :
1996 and relevant environmental legislation, regulations and
the specific requirements of contract specifications and schedules.
The organisation recognises continual change in environmental
priorities and legislative obligation and therefore seeks
to create and enhance environmental awareness and interest
amongst staff and management.
Resource management and waste reduction are key factors in
the organisations environmental management. As part
of the management system, the organisation ensure that construction
methods and waste management receives the required attention,
avoiding the unnecessary waste of resources where practicable.
Where contract works unavoidably intrude on the environment,
reasonable care is taken to highlight the issues whilst seeking
to minimise their impact. In this regard, the organisation
ensures that close liaison is maintained with the relevant
authorities, local communities and interested parties during
the design, planning and execution of its activities and an
attitude of openness is encouraged at all times.
This policy is communicated to all employees, suppliers and
sub-contractors and is made available to the public and interested
parties.
